Designing the tools and brands powering the UK’s EV shift

I’ve worked with New AutoMotive, an independent transport research organisation, since their inception, supporting them across branding, digital design, and public campaigns as they’ve grown into a leading voice in the UK’s shift to electric vehicles.

New AutoMotive has played a central role in shaping UK transport policy — campaigning for and responding to government consultations on the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, which passed in 2023.

Data is central to this mission. Creating reports and tools that communicate evidence clearly and credibly has been crucial to their impact, and it’s been a privilege to support such a talented team in bringing that work to life.

Our collaborations have included evolving the core brand and website to house an expanding suite of data products, designing national reports, and creating a roadside billboard campaign for COP26. While the current site has since evolved, the foundation of that early brand system remains.

Building on this platform, I developed Electric Car Guide, New AutoMotive’s consumer-facing brand and website. Designed to make the EV transition tangible and accessible, the experience showcases real stories from electric drivers, converts sceptics through clear UX and messaging, and features a bespoke cost-savings calculator web app built from scratch.

Together, the two brands connect policymakers and the public — translating complex global data into clear, engaging stories that have helped drive real progress in the UK’s electric transport transition.
